September 2016
Nottingham Conferences, located at the University of Nottingham and operated under a managed service provided by De Vere Venues, part of the Principal Hayley group, will play host to the prestigious UK Corporate Games 2017 after the city was unanimously voted the number one choice from the Games Inspection Committee.
The UK Corporate Games is Europe’s largest annual multi sports festival for businesses, providing an opportunity to enhance corporate teambuilding and individual well-being through sport, competition, fun and fitness. The event, taking place from 6-9 July, is set to be one of the largest in its 30 year history with Nottingham Conferences and the Principal Hayley Group working closely with the Games Headquarters to develop the ultimate mix of sport and business tourism. Its estimated to bring in over £3m of economic benefit, and reinforces its ‘Home of Sport’ status awarded to the city in 2015.
The event will be staged across multiple sporting venues across the city, with The University of Nottingham being the central sports hub utilising both the University Park and Jubilee Campus sports facilities, event spaces and a significant proportion of the 4,000 onsite bedrooms. Organisers will have use of the university’s new David Ross Sports Village at the University Park campus, which opens in autumn 2016 and played a pivotal role in securing the games bid. The £40million sports village will feature a state-of-the-art fitness centre, equipped with an extensive gym, a 20 court sports hall, multiple glass squash courts, an indoor sprint track, two dance studios and a climbing wall. In addition, the University has an impressive 52 playing fields, making it one of the most sport-focused venues in the country.
Andrew May, General Manager of Nottingham Conferences commented, “We are thrilled that together with our bid partners, we have secured the UK Corporate Games for 2017 for Nottingham. This is a great opportunity to bring the city together and for us to showcase our brand new David Ross Sports Village, the latest addition to an already stellar collection of state-of-the-art sporting facilities available at the university. The addition of this major class leading venue will enable the Games team to stage at least 15 different sports on campus with the ability to have both accommodation and sport all on one site in an impressive ‘sports village environment’. This will deliver a wonderful platform to promote team building and business engagement as well as improving workplace health and well-being for as many businesses and organisations as possible.”
Ben Sedgemore, Games Director said, “We've been blown away by the quality and the number of impressive facilities that are available at Nottingham Conferences and across the city, making it a perfect choice for us. We are confident that with its powerful business infrastructure and central location, it will be a popular destination for business visitors from across the UK and beyond, as well as the local corporate community.”
