NEW STUDENT VILLAGE NOW OPEN FOR GROUP TRAVEL AND CONFERENCE BOOKINGS

The first phase of the new residential development at Queen Mary, University of London is now complete and open for group travel and residential conference bookings. Phase 1 of the Student Village is home to 500 new ensuite bedrooms in four attractive buildings close to Regents Canal with views over Mile End Millennium Park. Phase 2, on schedule for completion in July 2004, will see a further two landmark buildings erected plus a range of ancillary facilities including a canal side cafe/bar, shop, multi-purpose room, laundry and public canal side walkway.

200 of the new ensuite rooms are available for group travel and conference use from April 2004 and up to 650 ensuite rooms will be ready for the summer vacation period, starting June 2004 rising to 1,150 for Summer 2005. The rooms complement the new Social Science Research Centre Conference Suite which seats up to 50 delegates and has year round availability.

The new facilities are situated in landscaped grounds and all the flats and maisonettes are a short walk from the College’s modern catering and meeting facilities. There is also 24-hour onsite assistance and a security service on campus.

Eleven of the new rooms are suitable for wheelchair access, bringing the overall total number of wheelchair accessible rooms to 15. The College’s catering outlets and many of the meeting rooms are already accessible.

Conference and Groups Manager Sue Mussett, said “This new development will work very effectively with our recently refurbished catering and meeting facilities to deliver a high standard of accommodation for groups and conferences at reasonable rates close to Central London.”

Mussett hopes that availability from April 2004, combined with the campus location, will deliver a successful new product for the conference and groups markets.
