Conference Oxford, Oxford university's conference managing office, will celebrate its 10th Anniversary on 24 June with an event opened by Chris Patten, Chancellor of the University.
Conference Oxford is the conference marketing arm of 38 Oxford Colleges and Permanent Private Halls. It was founded in 1994 in order to pool the marketing efforts of the Oxford Colleges and is the central enquiry point for availibility of the Colleges' facilities for conferences, accommodation and banqueting.
Conference Oxford has roughly doubled conference income since it was set up. In 1994, the total worth of conference business to the Oxford Colleges was £8.5m; in 2001/02, the total had risen to £16m.
Oxford's unique advantages as a conference venue are its historical ambience and the diversity of venues it can offer. It is both a beautiful city with 900 year heritage of academic tradition and a central location with good public transport links.
