| KEELE TEAM GOES THE DISTANCE IN 4,000 MILE MARATHON |
| The event team at Keele Conference Park has walked an astonishing 4,000 miles this summer – without even leaving the University campus ! The energetic team clocked up the distance covering events on the 617 acre campus during one of the most successful summer seasons to date with a 13% increase in profit since last year.
The seventeen strong team spent a week wearing pedometers to see just how much ground they were covering whilst organising client conferences, exhibitions, weddings and events. Having taken over half a million steps per week between them they were able to work out their average stride length and calculate the total number of miles covered.
The team, led by Claire Hancock, has organised events for 2 to 2000 guests this summer including conferences for the Prison Service, Forensic Science Society, The Samaritans and The Association of Charity Shops. In addition, organising outdoor events for the Football Association Youth Coaches group and The Round Table plus 50 weddings has kept the team on its toes.
Marketing Manager Marcus Wilson commented: “We knew that the team worked hard but never actually realised just how many miles they do – perhaps we will have to look at a footwear allowance or pedicures for next summer ! Despite the weather, which gave us the wettest August ever at Keele since 1952, we have been incredibly busy which is partly due to opening the new Medical Centre this summer. We have just held a great event there for the British Institute of Embalmers and the early autumn schedule is already full.”
The events team is now getting itself back on its feet in the run up to an equally busy Christmas season.
