Completing another exciting stage in the history of Fitzwilliam College, the eagerly awaited, state-of-the-art Auditorium was officially opened on 21st June by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The striking exterior of the building and the stunning, simple interior, seats audiences of up to 250 and is extremely versatile, meeting the diverse range of operational requirements for conferences, exhibitions and concerts.
To minimise the impact of the building on the gardens, one storey is subterranean, and wherever possible, materials from sustainable and local sources have been used. For example, the bricks selected exactly match those used to build The Grove nearly 200 years ago. With this rare blend of history and innovation, Fitzwilliam continues to live up to its heraldic motto “Ex Antiquis Et Novissimis Optima” – of providing “the best of the old and the new”.
