Having recently completed the building of 340 single bedrooms, which will be available for conference use from June 2005, an additional 540 single rooms are currently under construction on the park wood village complex.
Building on this latest project commenced in July 2004 and will be available for conference use from June 2006. Both new buildings consist of cluster flats, each housing between 6-9 delegates, built around a central shared kitchen. All rooms will have “En-Suite” facilities and when the current park wood project is completed, there will be over 1200 en-suite bedrooms available for conferences and groups at the University of Kent.
In addition to the new bedrooms, the “Darwin Conference Suite” which offers all year round conference and banqueting facilities for up to 250 delegates, has also been completely refurbished to a high standard.
Kevin Stuckey, Residences & Conference Manager at Kent Hospitality says “The new buildings and on-going refurbishment of our facilities is great news for us and for Canterbury as a conference and leisure destination. The increase in the number of en-suite rooms available to conference delegates will undoubtedly open up new conference opportunities for us in the association and corporate sectors. In addition, the ability to offer the accommodation as complete self-catering units will appeal to our well established group clientele and the growing number of families from the UK and overseas that use the University and Kent as a base for their annual holidays.”
