Guests and delegates at Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre in Manchester were shocked when a team of SAS commandos started abseiling down the walls of the building… moments before smashing through the windows, leaving one soldier engulfed in flames.|
But these dramatic scenes were only part of a documentary series for the National Geographic channel: the show was a reconstruction of the terrible Iranian embassy siege in London 26 years ago.
The site was officially opened as Chancellors, a dedicated all year round hotel and conference centre in 1997.
The documentary dramatisation aims to recapture the atmosphere of the siege and forms part of a documentary series called “Extreme Rescue”.
Catherine Murphy, Sales Manager at Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre, said:
“We are excited that Chancellors was chosen to film the reconstruction of one of the most important moments of recent British history. Since it was originally built -more than 150 years ago- the venue has been steeped in history and we are delighted that the venue is continuing in such a prominent role within the city.”
