VENUE DESCRIPTION

Newcastle University is located in one of the UK's most exciting cities and is a great venue for conferences and meetings. The recent renaissance of the city has seen the building of the Millenium Bridge, the Angel of the North and the BALTIC arts centre. The University is a key player in these developments and continues to be part of the economic regeneration of the region whilst developing new facilities and meeting space on campus.

BEDROOM DESCRIPTION

Our two main residences - Castle Leazes Halls and Henderson Halls - offer over 1500 rooms. Castle Leazes (situated ten minutes walk from the main campus) is popular with Conferences, meetings and groups who wish to use lecture facilities on campus and enjoy the proximity to the city centre. All rooms have washbasins, a limited number of twin and en suite are available. Henderson Hall offers 88 en suite rooms available during the summer vacation.

MEETING DESCRIPTION

Available on campus and in halls of residence situated within walking distance from the campus with additional facilities located 3 miles from the city centre in a quiet suburb. Rooms on campus range from the traditional splendour of Kings Hall to modern state-of-the-art lecture theatres with audio visual facilities. Halls of residence offer a fully comprehensive range of rooms with the advantage of on-site parking during the summer vacation.

RESTAURANT / BAR DESCRIPTION

Halls of residence offer a full catering food and beverage service all year round and our managers will be pleased to discuss individual requirements with clients. On campus there are additional catering services. Courtyard - a new cafe bar restaurant opened in May 2004 and is conveniently located for conferences using meeting space on campus. Coutyard is also available for weekend and evening functions throughout the year.

LEISURE FACILITIES

The University is one of the top ten universities for sport in the country. A new sports centre, exclusively for University use, opened in early 2005 to form the focus of the indoor sports provision that will include a state-of-the-art fitness facility, comparable to the private sector. This will compliment the outdoor facilites, being used for the second successive year for the World Corporate Games. The provision includes 27 grass pitches, an all-weather surface and an 18 hole golf course that makes Newcastle unique in University sports provision.

DIRECTIONS

The University is located in the city centre. Newcastle airport is 7 miles and a rapid transport system (metro) takes 25 minutes to reach the University. By road, easy access from the north and south is via the A1. The city's coach and bus stations are within easy reach of the University by foot, taxi or metro. By rail, the university is 2 metro stops from the rail station.

SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS

The University and halls of residence are well situated to explore the city and the region. Newcastle, an exciting destination, offers a range of experiences from cafe dining on the quayside to art galleries, entertainment and excellent retail outlets. Hadrians Wall and Alnwick Castle Gardens are all within easy reach for those with time to enjoy the region.
