VENUE DESCRIPTION

Set in scenic parkland, the University of Essex is on the outskirts of historic Colchester and within easy access of London, East Anglia, Stansted airport and Harwich International port. Offering full board or self catering accommodation with varied, well-equipped meeting rooms for conferences, summer courses and events. Group discounts available.

BEDROOM DESCRIPTION

The accommodation is provided in flats of single study bedrooms with en suite shower rooms or in flats with shared facilities. Flats range from 6 bedrooms to 14 bedrooms with a ratio of 6 bedrooms per kitchen. All residences both on and off campus are provided with bed linen and towels which are changed weekly. Within en suite accommodation, we offer some purpose built bedrooms for guests with disabilities.

MEETING DESCRIPTION

The vast range of meeting and conference rooms include 9 theatre style meeting rooms with capacities ranging from 75 up to 650 delegates all housed in one building. Additional teaching and meeting rooms offer capacities of 15 to 84. Table layout, flexible seating and a variety of audiovisual equipment can be arranged. Event registration, refreshment breaks and exhibitions can all be catered for. A media centre and theatre are also available for hire.

RESTAURANT / BAR DESCRIPTION

The catering outlets on campus occupy central locations, so are easily accessible from both accommodation and meeting rooms alike. With 3 fully licensed bars and 7 cafes, a variety of catering packages can be arranged. Catering can be delivered to meeting rooms or clients can choose to hold thier function in one of the cafes or bars. In the summer, a marquee is available for barbeques and formal dinners for up to 230 people.

LEISURE FACILITIES

Indoor facilities include squash and badminton courts, a fitness room plus an aerobics & dance hall. Outdoor pitches and an all weather surface are available for football, cricket and volleyball together with tennis and netball courts. the Sports Hall can be booked for exhibitions and the sports fields can be booked for outdoor events. Discos and cinema shows plus a range of indoor activities can be arranged.

DIRECTIONS

On the outskirts of Colchester, the University is within easy reach of London by road and rail. By road via the A12 from London and the South, take the exit for Colchester Central or from Ipswich and the North, take the exit marked Colchester. The University is off the A133 to Clacton. Trains run between London and Colchester every half-hour and take under an hour. Services also connect from Norwich, Ipswich, Harwich and Felixstowe.

SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS

The University is an ideal base for exploring Colchester itself (Britain's oldest recorded town) with its five museums and excellent shopping, and the beautiful countryside of north Essex and south Suffolk made famous by Constable and Gainsborough. The local area also offers the Essex Sunshine Coast with its mixture of seaside resorts, countryside and historic towns and villages as well as the historic houses and castles of the rich and famous.
