VENUE DESCRIPTION

Woodbrooke is a conference centre with a difference. We are a vibrant Quaker study centre, and have been since 1903. Our beautiful buildings, 10-acre garden and friendly service can provide the ideal setting for your small group or larger organisation. Selly Oak is an attractive suburb 4 miles south-west of Birmingham City Centre. The house itself, a handsome Grade 2 listed building, was once the home of George Cadbury, the famous chocolate maker.

BEDROOM DESCRIPTION

A peaceful urban retreat awaits those choosing to stay overnight at Woodbrooke. We have over 60 bedrooms, with a mixture of single, twin and double rooms. All have their own tea and coffee making facilities, desk and washbasin. Those not en suite have bath and shower rooms close by. For disabled visitors specially adapted rooms are available.

MEETING DESCRIPTION

Whether you need a small meeting room for one morning, or a week-long residential conference for 100 people, Woodbrooke is flexible enough to help. Available is the latest multimedia presentation equipment, as well as overhead projectors, whiteboards, TV, videos and flipcharts. Internet, e-mail, fax and photocopying facilities are also on offer. All our meeting and conference rooms are decorated to the same high standard, providing a relaxed working environment overlooking the gardens and lake.

RESTAURANT / BAR DESCRIPTION

Our catering team are experienced in devising appetising menus to suit people with many dietary requirements, from all over the world. Lunch is a sit-down two-course meal in our dining room, though buffet meals can be arranged elsewhere. Where possible, we try to use the fruit, vegetables and herbs grown organically from our gardens. We have an ethical purchasing policy with many goods purchased. Alcohol is not served, but several bars are close by.

LEISURE FACILITIES

Whilst at Woodbrooke, guests can enjoy Woodbrooke’s organic garden - the largest in Birmingham and equal to many botanical gardens. Among the many attractions of this setting are a walled garden, a small boating lake and magnificent mature trees, including a willow reputed to be the tallest in the country. We manage the site organically and with attention to wildlife habitat - kingfishers and herons are often spotted in the garden. During your stay you are welcome to explore the treasures of our library containing both Quaker and non-Quaker literature. For the more energetic, a volleyball court in the garden is available.

DIRECTIONS

Woodbrooke is on the A38 (Bristol Road) between Selly Oak and Northfield, about 4 miles south-west of the centre of Birmingham and 6 miles north-east of the M5, junction 4. More detailed can be found on our website
